Frolicking in Luxembourg!

This is Scott Freeman and I as Hansel and Gretel in our Luxembourg production of Trail of Crumbs: A Recurring Dystopia for Hansel & Gretel at the National Theatre of Luxembourg, June 2015!

I've finally getting around to writing and reflecting on my time in Luxembourg! Our company (The Circle Theater of New York) spent two and a half weeks in Luxembourg City. We were directed by Anne Simon, who has directed several projects at the National Theatre of Luxembourg (TNL). We were housed in a beautiful flat right by the TNL. This is a shot outside my window!

Yes, it was BEAUTIFUL. Luxembourg is a magical city. It's tiny but full of old fortresses, canals,  bridges, and castles. The time I spent there was a perfect amount of time to perform this show that we worked so hard on AND exploring a brand new city.

We had six performances scattered during our time in Luxembourg. My favorite part about doing the show here was the difference in space. It had so much more height and depth than our space at the Access Theater in NYC. I didn’t realize how cramped we were until I saw how spacey the TNL was. It was truly a breath of fresh air to perform in a space with tall ceilings. Our show, as expected, was very different in Luxembourg but I believe for the better. Our set breathed better and therefore, helped us be more dynamic as a whole.

Aside from our show, I had the absolute best time adventuring around Luxembourg. I stepped up my Instagram game by taking some pretty outrageously beautiful photos (most likely not my photography skills but the city itself was breathtaking.) Here is a list of everything I can remember in bullet points because I’ve always loved those.

  • Discovered Andalouse Sauce and fell in love. (i.e. Andalouse is an orangey, paprika mayo that you can put on sausages and fries and whatever else you fancy.)
  • Had a Portuguese crush. It was short-lived.
  • Attended the Duke of Luxembourg’s birthday.
  • This was not an invited special party, like you think. It was a giant street party where you dance to Luxembourgish electronic music until 5am.
  • Traveled to Frankfurt, Germany.
  • Traveled to Brussels, Belgium. Ate lots of waffles and frites (those are fries).
  • Favorite coffee shop in Luxembourg: Konrad
  • Free bus transportation. What a steal!
  • Played on colorfully pained pianos around the city next to fortresses and waterfalls.
